iPad 2 & iPhone 4s Finally Jailbroken in the form of…..Absinthe
Posted by: Andy | Posted on: January 24th, 2012
Fans of Jailbreaking will be pleased to learn that Apples latest & greatest A5 devices can now be jailbroken, in the form of an untethered jailbreak called Absinthe. IOS 5; the most recent revision of Apples operating system has proven to be the hardest one to be jailbroken to date. It has effectively started a war between Apple and the Jailbreaking community. For those of you who don’t keep up to date with all that is Apple & Jailbreakable; each time a software update is released for Apple’s mobile operating system, a group of hackers known under many different names such as the Chronic Dev Team & GreenPoison, will try to exploit the OS software to allow for custom programs to be installed, basically programs that are not approved by Apple.
These programs are just like the apps that can be found on the App Store, except there are lots of tweaks that will improve upon the existing operating system, as well as games, and all sorts of other tools, none of which will be found on the official app store. Another reason as for why Jailbreaking your iDevice has become so popular is that you can run pirated software, in other words, using the correct repository you can download any app, for free, and use it on your device. *We do NOT support the use of pirated software, this blog is an overview on the latest jailbreak, that is all!*
So with the custom apps only available through jailbreaking, and the easy availability of pirated apps, the surge in users jailbreaking their devices is easily explainable, especially since jailbreaking generally overcomes some of the annoying restrictions that Apple have on their software. Within the first 24 hours of the Absinthe jailbreak being released it was downloaded over one million times.
So now that you know why people have been jailbreaking their devices, perhaps you would like to know how to actually do it….?
For those users on iPhone 4S & iPad 2
- Download Absinthe from Here for Windows
- Download Absinthe from Here for Mac
- Extract the Software from its Archive
- Open the Absinthe Program
- Ensure that your device does not have a passcode lock in use, or the jailbreak will fail!
- Click the button at the bottom right that says Jailbreak
- Do not touch your device until instructed to do so on screen
- Once instructed to, unlock your device, wait for the phone to become useable, and open the cydia app…
- Cydia will initialise your file system, rendering the device jailbroken! You can now start installing apps, tweaks & tools through cydia.
I hope that this post has been useful to you, and keep your eyes peeled for a new blog listing the Top Ten App Store Apps, and the Top Ten Cydia Apps…
